The Best Photo Spots on Suluada (and How to Shoot Them)

Ask anyone coming back from Suluada and they will show you the same thing: a picture of white sand and water so clear it looks edited. It isn’t. But the gap between a decent shot and a great one usually comes down to where you stand and when you press the button. We sail this route every day, so here is what we have learned from watching thousands of guests with phones in hand.

Suluada’s long white beach and turquoise water seen from the boat

Lovers Beach, from the top deck

The famous turquoise-to-white gradient is easiest to capture as the boat glides in, not after you land. From the upper deck you look down on the shallows, and the bands of colour separate beautifully. Once you are on the sand that layering flattens out, so have your phone ready before the anchor drops.

Low and in the water

On shore, wade out to knee depth and turn around so the beach sits behind you. Holding the camera just above the surface shows off how clear the water is. If you bring a waterproof pouch, try a split shot: half above the waterline, half below. It takes a few attempts, but the result is worth it.

The sea caves, shot from the boat

Currents at the caves on the southern side of the island mean nobody swims there, so all your photos come from the deck. The captain slows right down for a few minutes. Frame the cave mouth on one side and let the turquoise water fill the foreground; the dark rock makes the colour pop.

Lighthouse Bay and Adrasan at dusk

On the way back we stop at Lighthouse Bay, where the old beacon and rocky shoreline give you one last strong frame. In the evening, walk along Adrasan beach as the sun drops behind the mountains and the moored boats turn into silhouettes.

Quick settings that help

  • At midday the sand is very bright, so tap the screen and pull exposure down a touch.
  • Hold polarised sunglasses over the lens to deepen the blue.
  • Use burst mode while the boat rocks and pick the sharpest frame later.
  • Turn on the grid to keep the horizon level.
  • Ask before including other guests in your photos.
