Our Boat and Crew: Sailing to Suluada on Cengiz 1

What makes a day on the water good is often less the view than the boat and the people running it. Our Suluada trips run on Cengiz 1, with Captain Cengiz at the helm – he has been taking boats around these coves for 25 years.

In short: Cengiz 1 is a tour boat of about 24 metres with room for around 75 guests. On board there is a toilet, changing cabins, sunbed cushions, music and life jackets for adults and children. Captain Cengiz has 25 years of experience.

The boat

At roughly 24 metres, Cengiz 1 is a broad-decked tour boat built for the run from Adrasan to Suluada. The top deck has cushions for sunbathing, while below there is shaded seating for anyone who would rather watch the coast go by. Capacity is about 75 guests, and the deck is roomy enough that people still find their own spot on busy days.

The captain

Captain Cengiz has spent 25 years on the water around Adrasan and Suluada. He knows which bay stays calm in which wind and when the bigger boats tend to arrive, and he sets the order of the stops on the day with that in mind – safety first, then the quietest water he can find.

The crew

Alongside the captain, a small crew cooks lunch in the galley and looks after guests on deck – helping children into life jackets, keeping an eye on the ladder during swim stops and topping up the tea.
